The Wharf

The Place: The Wharf

Where: Maine Avenue between 7th and 12th Streets SW

Why Live Near Here: It would be hard to find someone who DOESN’T want to live near some nice, calm waters, if we’re being honest (and especially on a day like today). Those who want to live near DC’s SW Waterfront want to live in an area with a storied past and can take in the views whenever they want & can (hopefully) avoid the crowds, but also need to be ready to share it with lots and lots of visitors who come in on nice days to get their dose of fun in the sun.

Washington Harbour

The Place: The Washington Harbour

Where: 30th and K Streets NW

Why Live Near Here: Who doesn’t want to live near a complex where one can dine at some top notch restaurants, drink at some fun outdoor bars, watch rowers skillfully scull past, or (from November to March) go ice skating with a penguin*?

*Ok ok they’re not real penguins but they’re skate aids in the shape of penguins. Still pretty damn cute…

The Place: Solly’s

Where: 11th and U Streets NW

Why Live Near Here: This past August, Prince of Petworth announced that Solly’s was the BEST real bar in D.C. Period. And honestly, we couldn’t agree more. Solly’s has been in the U Street hood since 2006 and has been true to itself from the beginning – it’s a simple bar that doesn’t try to compete with some of the more trendy spots that have opened since it first came on the scene.  So you want to live around here if you want to be able to pop over to your favorite local no frills watering hole… especially if you’re a Ohio State Buckeyes or Miami Dolphins fan.

The Anthem

Thanksgiving Day Post! A Place I’m thankful for:

The Place: The Anthem

Where: 9th Street and Maine Avenue SWs

Why Live Near Here: You’re a lover of live music but maybe you’ve outgrown the college radio phase of your life and only really know the bands who play larger-scale venues.  Second to that, you’re someone who enjoys living in a neighborhood that has recently undergone an epic Joan Rivers-level facelift.

The 9:30 Club

The Place: The 9:30 Club

Why live here: Because it’s The @#$^%! 9:30 Club! It’s THE BEST. Hell, it’s the impetus for this blog.

The 9:30 Club, consistently ranked as one of the best small music venues in the U.S., hosts some of the most incredible musical acts around. It opened its doors at 815 V Street NW in 1996 after 15 years at its original location at 930 F Street NW. Since then, it has helped the 9th & U Street area (sometimes referred to as 9th & Awesome by some of my DC friends) boom and flourish into the bustling area it has become. So, if you love seeing live music and want to pop over at the drop of a hat, living nearby would be fantastic.
